CMCC Foundation

The Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is a non-profit research institution established in 2005, with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea (MATT), the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies (MIPAF) and the Ministry of Finance (MEF), thanks to funding from the Integrative Special Research Fund (FISR), within the National strategic Programme for Research.

On 10th December 2015 the Center became a Foundation, therefore representing CMCC’s legal status, its contents, aims and operational modalities.
CMCC benefits from the extensive research experience of the Foundation’s seven members: National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV); University of Salento; Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA S.c.p.a); Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; University of Tuscia; University of Sassari, Politecnico di Milano.

CMCC’s mission is to investigate and model our climate system and its interactions with society and the environment to guarantee reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific results to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and to develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate.

REMHI Division

The Regional Models and geo-Hydrological Impacts (REMHI) Division@ CMCC Foundation works mainly on:

  • Regionalization of the climatic signal through the development and use of statistical and dynamical downscaling approaches. The Division is involved in the CORDEX project, specifically in the activities of MENA-CORDEX and EURO-CORDEX.
  • REMHI Division
  • Implementation of procedures able to properly link climate data with impacts models also using advanced GIS interface for supporting end users in analysis and use of climate data. The REMHI division gained this experience working in many national and international research projects but also in consultancy services in cooperation with local and international authorities.
  • Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the effects of climate and land use changes on several impacts. Among these there are geo-hydrological hazards (floods, drought and landslide) and impacts on the population (heat waves, health).
  • For additional information see https://www.cmcc.it/divisions/remhi.
